Battling Your Giants

Battling Your Giants

Then a champion named Goliath, from Gath, came out from the Philistine camp.

1 Samuel 17:4 CSB

How many giants are you facing right now? Can you name one as you think back over the past year? Did several giants pop up? Maybe you fear the next one that will arise unexpectedly.

In 1 Samuel we see David taking food to his brothers and discovering Goliath taunting King Saul’s soldiers, including three of David’s brothers. As David offered to take care of the problem, he was ridiculed since he was just a youth.

But his response was bold, You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of Armies, the God of the ranks of Israel — you have defied him (1 Samuel 17:45). He killed the giant Goliath with one shot from his sling.

He defended his ability to slay Goliath by sharing how he had learned in the wilderness while shepherding his flock how to kill an enemy. That took care of his physical abilities, but using the name of God assured success. Ridicule and unbelief couldn’t stop the victory.

When you face your giants, do you do it using the name of the Lord? Do you trust what God has previously taught you to help you have wisdom you need to be successful against the enemy?

As giants come and go in our lives, remember what the Lord has already taught you about walking in His truth and wisdom. Ask Him to help you face the giant and trust Him to stand beside you as you stand up to the enemy. Do it in the name of the Lord as David did and see Him work through you to defeat the enemy.

Lord, You give us everything we need for all the giants You allow into our lives. Remind us of what You have already taught us about how to do battle. Fight our battles through us to make Your name great. May we always do it for Your glory.
