Trusting Jesus – God’s Got Your Back
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you: he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Psalm 55:22 NIV
Some mornings when the alarm clock blares, I feel like pulling the covers over my head – trying to stop the overwhelming thoughts of the tasks of the day. But something moves in my soul that pushes me out of bed. There is more to our day than a to do list. God has our day all planned out. I am sure He laughs at our day planners.
As I open my bible, I get that peace that alluded me at the start of the day. It is that peace that God’s has my back. Whatever happens we are not alone in our journey.
I have had several mornings lately where I just want to hide from the pain of illness, but when I focus on Jesus, I find the strength to push through.
Recently, I looked through some old pictures remembering my family’s trips to the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day games. My dad and I were big fans. Even as his health was failing, we didn’t miss the Thanksgiving game.
My dad was an army veteran. Each time the flag was unfolded on the field, he would stand and salute as the national anthem played. At one game, dad was in the handicap seat next to mom and me. As soon as the flag appeared on the field dad stood to salute. Mom and I wrapped our arms around him, not sure what we were to do if he started to fall. Two young men left their seats and came to us. One of the men said don’t worry, “we got his 6– I am in the Marines, and he is in the Air Force. We are proud to stand next to him.”
Tears flowed from my eyes as they put their arms around my dad and all three saluted the flag. After the anthem, mom and I thanked the men. People came to shake dad’s hand and thank him for his service, as well as the young men who came to the rescue. None of us saw the kickoff.
I was reminded how Jesus always has our back in all seasons of life. Whether it is a well-timed call or text from a friend, a friendly gesture in a store or simply a smile. God shows up because He has our 6 – 24/7.
