Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Words have powerful effects
They have the power to lift up, encourage, motivate, and give praise but if not controlled the evilness of your heart is revealed. It is scary to think that the very same lips that I use to give God glory, honor, and praise can also spit out mean, hateful, and degrading remarks to those closest to me.
The serpent’s tongue was used to deceive Adam and Eve. David commanded that an innocent man be killed in order to cover up his sin, and Peter verbally denied Jesus three times.
Marriages are started or ended by words, Children’s little spirits are encouraged or crushed by our words, and friendships can be strengthened or separated by our words. Words are powerful.
The bible warns us of this very thing, “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be” (James 3:9-10).
Let’s run to the Father and ask Him to help mend broken relationships that we have hurt with our actions and confess where we have done wrong.
Dear Merciful Father,
I am so thankful that You are a God that is slow to anger and holds no record of wrong. Please forgive me for not controlling my tongue and allowing my emotions to guide my words. Give us the power to control our tongue and let our “words be few.”
