Putting our Belief into Practice
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray that in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and my please him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according; to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints into the kingdom of light.
Colossians 1:9-12
I love this part of Paul’s letter that he wrote to the Colossian church. It reminds me what we as believers are capable of with the help of the Holy Spirit. We have the power to gain knowledge and understanding of God’s word so that we can share it with others. We are instruments used by God to speak His truth and show His love regardless where He sends us.
Over the summer our college/singles ministries went to Costa Rica to help with Vacation Bible School, lead a women’s Bible study and repaint a church. The greatest barrier that they had was with language. Regardless of the challenge, they pressed on and were able to use creativity along with an interpreter to help explain the gospel message. If the message they shared did not measure up with how they lived, then it would have been easy for the locals to see them as frauds. However, through their good works, along with the Godly message of Christ’s love, it was evident that the gospel message was truth.
Dear Father, Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit to guide us and strengthen us when we are sharing the gospel with those You bring to us.
