Seeing God through His Creation

Seeing God through His Creation

“Lift up your eyes on high and look to the heavens: Who created all these?”

Isaiah 40:26 NIV

As I sorted boxes of my children’s artwork, I admired how their childhood imaginations defied rules of perspective and laws of nature. Time has since redirected their imaginations from free-form artwork to the demanding issues of adult problem-solving. However, a quote by Oswald Chamber recently challenged me to rekindle my own child-like imagination:

“If we are children of God, we have a tremendous treasure in nature. In every wind that blows, in every night and day of the year, in every sign of the sky, in every blossoming and in every withering of the earth, there is a real coming of God to us if we will simply use our starved imagination to realize it*.”

Oswald Chambers found inspiration from an Old Testament prophet who exhorted the nation of Israel to look up and see their God more clearly! He identified two characteristics of God, His great power and His mighty strength.

“Lift up your eyes on high and look to the heavens: Who created all these? Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing” (Isaiah 40:26).

As God rekindles my imagination, I anticipate increased worshipful moments as my heightened senses and my imagination take in the sights and sounds of His powerful and glorious presence revealed within His creation.

Father, rekindle the gift of imagination within me for seeing the ways You reveal Yourself. Slow my pace to hear the lilt of a bird’s song and to imagine Your hands forming the shapes and colors of clouds. Let the stars remind me of Your strength and power available to me. And, along with imagination, renew my childlike faith to trust in You as my heavenly Father. In Your Son’s name, Jesus, I pray, amen.
