Rooted

Rooted

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.

Colossians 2:7 NLT

Huge storms traveled across our area several weeks ago, and giant trees were uprooted everywhere.

It was sad to see so many very old, very heavy trees simply toppled over just by the wind.

It happened quickly.

There one day – steady and firm.

Gone the next – toppled over.

Like those giant trees, I want to think my faith in Christ is steady and firm.

Then… here comes a storm. Will I be tossed about by the wind?

What about you? How easily could you be uprooted?

Paul warns of something similar that can happen in our Christian journey…

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body (Colossians 2:6-9 NLT).

Rooted in Christ means… I will continue to follow Jesus and build my life on His truth in Scripture.

Rooted in Christ also means…  I won’t allow empty philosophies and human thinking that contradicts Scripture to capture me.

The key to this success is being in Christ.

Asking for Jesus’ help as I live my life with Him.

Father, in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me… whispering, “Trust Me.” Help me grow in my faith in Jesus and trust the truth in Your Word. Alert me when I start to allow human thinking or philosophies to capture me. Help me call on Jesus so I stay firm and steady, rooted in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
