Do You Hear?
He who has ears, let him hear.
Matthew 11:15 (NIV)
My girls were attending a party which had a playground. The kids could play while the adults worked on getting the activities organized and set up. The kids had a wonderful time at the party, playing games, making crafts, and eating delicious snacks.
When the festivities were over, my girls asked if they could return to the playground for a little bit longer. I agreed, and off they ran, excited to be back at it. After some time, I gave them a five- minute warning so they could have plenty of time to wind down their game and tell their friends goodbye.
When the time came to leave, I yelled, “Let’s go!” They continued playing as if I never said a word! They completely ignored me. Standing there with my purse, bags, coats, and gifts, I could feel my patience running low as I continued to be ignored by my girls.
Finally getting their attention, they could tell from the look on my face, I was not a happy Mommy. Once the girls were in the car, I explained to them how disappointed I was that they heard my voice but chose to ignore me.
Suddenly, I was nudged by the Holy Spirit when He reminded me that I do the same thing. I hear the Lord tell me something and then push it aside as if I never heard Him. Jesus reminds us, “He who has ears, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15).
Dear Father, Forgive me for ignoring You. Help me to set a good example for my girls to obey Your word the first time.
