Jesus is with You—Daddy’s Footsteps
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
Growing up, I could recognize my dad’s footsteps, whether he was wearing his work shoes or his favorite worn-out house slippers.
The steady rhythm of his steps comforted me. I knew Dad was nearby, and I felt safe.
When I moved away, I severely dislocated my knee in an accident at home. I rode to the hospital by ambulance, and they notified my parents. Laying in the emergency room bed, a nurse said my parents were coming.
While I waited for the doctor to set my knee, I listened to the footsteps going up and down the hall. With my knee set and plenty of pain meds, I fell asleep, and then something woke me—footsteps that I recognized—and they were coming closer. As the door to my room opened, I saw Dad, and everything was okay.
Remembering my dad made me think about Jesus walking with the disciples - could they hear His steps as they walked with them? Did they recognize his footsteps? I can only imagine the day Jesus walked into the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed his most difficult prayer. How heavy His feet fell to the ground as He walked into the garden. The grass crunched with each step before He fell to His knees.
I know one day I will hear His footsteps when He comes to take me home. But until then, I will rest in the peace of knowing He is walking alongside me each day. I may not hear His steps, but I feel His presence.
