Jesus is With You – A Bird’s Lullaby
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Psalm 59:16
One night awake at 2 a.m., as I lay in bed, I tried to go back to sleep. I could hear a little bird chirping outside my bedroom window. I thought you cannot sleep either.
Her song continued, and she worked hard to hit the high notes. As I lay there, I began praying to Jesus about the upcoming day, worries, and fears. I recited the 23rd Psalm. My fears began to fade, but her song continued. I thought maybe she woke me so that we could praise Jesus together.
Too often, we get so busy in our lives that we fail to see the beauty around us or listen to the birds chirp in the trees, the dogs bark as they chase a squirrel, or the laughter of a child playing with a toy.
We forget to invite God into the everyday parts of our life. He wants to have a relationship with us and for us to get to know Him better through the Word. Too often, we only call upon Him in a crisis. My grandmother’s favorite saying was, “Jesus is always your first choice, not last resort.” I cling to this on the most challenging days. Pray first – I tell myself when I have a hard day or a big decision.
As I lay there, I thought of all the times I had; in my haste to get things done, I failed to consult God. I remembered how things turned out - not well.
Maybe Jesus used that bird to get my attention so we could spend some quiet time together.
