Trust God’s Discipline
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11
My older daughter was given a cell phone when she started getting involved in a lot of drop-off events. When we gave her the phone we also included with it a set of rules that we expected her to respect and obey.
One of those rules was that she could not have a boy’s phone number. She broke that rule.
The Holy Spirit would not allow my daughter to rest, knowing she had broken one of our standards. She even deleted the boy's number hoping that would give her peace.
It did not work.
The Holy Spirit kept convicting her through restlessness in her spirit, reminding her she needed to confess her sin. Once she shared with us her secret, she felt the weight of her burden lifted.
This verse in Hebrews tells us that God’s discipline is not pleasant, it is painful.
It also tells us, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord’s disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son” (Hebrews 12:5).
After hearing my daughter pour out her heart to us, and explain the burden that she was carrying, we realized that the Lord stepped in and disciplined her. My husband and I thanked the Lord for keeping her in check and not leaving her alone until she settled the situation.
Dear Father,
Thank You for looking after Your children and reminding us to trust in Your discipline.
Psalm 30:5 says, “For his anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
