March Madness
"Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."
Philippians 4:9
March Madness is a time of intense preparation, discipline, and competition for college basketball players. Every baller stepping onto the court has spent countless hours practicing their craft—drilling plays, perfecting their shot, and strengthening their teamwork in hopes of drafting to the pros. When the game is on the line, they rely on what they’ve learned, trusting their training to guide them through the pressure.
Paul’s words in Philippians 4:9 remind us that faith is much the same. It’s not just about knowing Scripture or listening to sermons; it’s about putting what we’ve learned into action. Just as a basketball player must apply their training in real-game situations, we are called to live out our faith in daily life—showing kindness, practicing patience, and standing firm in truth.
During March Madness, upsets happen, and adversity strikes. In our spiritual lives, we also face setbacks. But when we’ve built a foundation of faith through prayer, obedience, and trust in God, we can stand strong, just like an athlete who relies on their training when the game is toughest.
As we watch the games unfold, let it be a reminder that our spiritual journey requires practice too. By living out what we’ve learned, we experience the peace of God, knowing that He is with us in every challenge—on the court and in life.
Reflection: How can you actively put your faith into practice today?
Lord, give me heart of relying on Your strength—staying in the game even when life gets tough. May I remember that showing kindness and patience are strengths, not weaknesses. Strip me of pride and may only Your glory be shown when I stand firm or celebrate a victory.
