Make God’s Love Known
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 89:1 ESV
Speaking “I love you” does not come easily for me. As a child, I did not hear those words. I was twenty years old when my future husband told me, “I love you.” I eventually found the courage to say the words to him. When I was thirty-one, I finally heard those all-important words from my mom and dad—by phone—across the country.
I have always had pets. Most of them became part of my family, but I never told any that I loved them. About four years after my husband and I adopted our dog, Biscuit, my heart tugged at me to say it to him. He grew on me like no other pet had. Was it because he was entirely devoted to me? He wants to be with me—all the time. His eyes speak love when held fast with mine. Could I tell Biscuit I loved him? I resisted, but it nagged me.
Finally, one night, as I carried him to his bed, I whispered, I love you. That moment marked a significant shift in our relationship.
Now, I regularly tell him that I love him and am not ashamed of it. He tells me he loves me by hugging me with his paws. I have never experienced that with other dogs, and it is precious to me. He is utterly dependent on my husband and me. Of course, we want to care for him faithfully.
Likewise, I have learned to tell God, my heavenly Father, “I love You.” As I accept His loyal love for me, I want to share it and His faithfulness with others. Making God's love known is a privilege.
Father, I am eternally thankful for Your love! Believing the love You have for me kindles my desire to let others know and experience it.
