Senioritis

Senioritis

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who sill sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and rescue you.

Isaiah 46: 4 NIV

Have you ever heard of Senioritis? A conversation with High School or College Seniors may contain that word. Seniors have tired of studying, going to class, and the routine of school. The anticipation of their next endeavor could stand in their way of finishing strong.

I remember those school days well, but these days I experience a different kind of “Senioritis”. After 60, Senioritis hits hard. Other -itises start to join in – tendonitis, arthritis, plantar fasciitis – to name a few. I get tired alright, but it has nothing to do with academic classes. Joints click and muscles ache. Doctors start using words like, “women of your age.” Friends ask, “Will you color your hair or let it go gray?” Ugh!

Although we may not look forward to some of these changes, Senior citizenship does not necessarily have to cause fear. God still has us. He still has a plan for our lives even if our health does not remain as great, even if our budget decreases, and even if we do not like to drive at night.

Isaiah 46:4 says God sees us. He will carry and sustain us. What a positive message for anyone really. The world may not see our vibrancy, but God does, He can still use us in spite of any -itises we may have. Who better to become prayer warriors, mentors, and encouragers? Who better to nurture others? As long as we are here, we are not finished.

From a young age to an old age, this verse in Isaiah says God will sustain us. I love the word “sustain.” I love thinking of God as my Sustainer and Rescuer.

Father, thank you for sustaining us no matter in what stage of life we find ourselves. Even in our gray haired Senior years, you remain our source of strength.
