Seek Heaven
The thing I seek most – is to live in the house of the Lord.
Psalm 27:4 NLT
When I was young, I thought the Colorado mountains were so beautiful that as a child I asked my mom, “Are we in heaven?”
What if… we really could just drive into heaven?
What if… it could be that easy to get there?
This makes me think of the psalm…
The one thing I ask of the Lord – the thing I seek most – is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple (Psalm 27:4 NLT).
Could it be that the Psalmist is asking the same thing by seeking to live in the house of the Lord? Is he asking, “Lord, how do I know if I will get into heaven?”
I considered… throughout time, this question is probably one of the most asked questions of God.
This made me look deeper into Scripture.
Jesus said…
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness… (Matthew 6:33 CSB).
And Scripture clearly teaches that I get into heaven… by faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God and that there is salvation in no other name (Acts 4:10-12 NLT).
I concluded God has made heaven very accessible… it is by faith in Jesus Christ.
To me, getting into heaven by faith in Jesus is easier than driving a car into heaven!
But how do I know without a doubt that my faith in Jesus is real?
This is the answer I found…
The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children and if children, also heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ – if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:16-17 CSB).
God’s Holy Spirit testifies or lets me know I am God’s child.
The Holy Spirit is either indwelling my heart… or He isn’t.
And if He is inside of me, He lets me know He is there.
I know the Holy Spirit is there because He is always pointing me to Jesus, and I know the truth that… No one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3 NLT).
Jesus loves you and me.
And He is there within our hearts.
Father in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me… whispering “Child, I love you and I am here with you. Trust in Jesus. He will lead you to Me.” Lord, I am so thankful You help me know You are there. Help me trust in You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
