A Devoted Disciple

A Devoted Disciple

Guard my life, for I am devoted to you, save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God, have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.

Psalm 86:2-4 (NIV)

“I am devoted to You”. Can you say these words to God? Are you devoted to God? Truly devoted? Not just in the good times but also during the challenging times?

The apostle Paul was devoted to Christ. He gives in great detail the challenges he faced because of his devotion. He was in prison, flogged, stoned, lashed, and exposed to death. He seemed to be in danger everywhere he turned. He continues to describe his difficulties in 2 Corinthians 11: 27, “I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep. I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food. I have been cold and naked.”

However, he boldly claims, “I delight in my weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecution, in difficulties, for when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

Can you claim the same thing? When you feel you are at a crossroads and want to walk away from your faith or claim, no matter the outcome, you will still stay devoted to the Lord. Which will you choose? My prayer is that the latter would be an obvious choice.

Dear Loving Father, We are so thankful that we can turn to You who will bring “joy to your servant” during difficult times. Lord, we want to stand firm in our faith and claim our devotion to You. Help us to defeat the enemy when he tries to doubt our relationship. Allow this prayer to be our proclamation to stand firm in our faith and devote our lives to the cause of Christ.
