He Got Us Out

He Got Us Out

I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.

John 11:25

A friend and her four-year-old daughter passed by a cemetery where a grave had been freshly dug with a mound of dirt to the side. The daughter said, “Oh look, Mom, someone got out!” At first I laughed, but later I realized the spiritual truth of this story. The obedience of Jesus Christ “got us out.”

The obedient death of Jesus on the cross “got us out” of the penalty of sin, which is death. (Romans 6:23) Jesus stood in your place and my place and “got us out” of facing the wrath of God.

By His sacrifice, Jesus “got us out” of the position of separation from God. When Jesus died, the veil in the temple that separated man from the Holy God was torn from top to bottom. God had made a way into His presence through Jesus Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:14). In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12).

After three days, Jesus rose from the grave. By His resurrection, He “got us out” of our grave clothes and has given believers life everlasting with Him. Because He has risen, we too will rise in Him.

The power God exerted when He raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him in authority is made available to us believers. (Ephesians 1:19-20) And so, in this life, Jesus “got us out” of the bondage to sin. Sin is no longer our master. Instead, through the power of Jesus living in us, the chains of sin are broken, and we are enabled to walk in righteousness.

PRAISE GOD! THROUGH JESUS HE GOT US OUT!

Thank You, Jesus, for getting us out of death, separation from God, and slavery to sin. Thank You for opening the way to peace with God, everlasting life, and daily power.
