Sea of Red Lights
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
1 John 4:9 NIV
I hit the road early one morning before the sun had risen. Many other people must have had the same idea for as I looked in front of me on the busy road three lanes wide, I noticed a sea of red tail lights. They continued ahead of me as far as I could see.
As we followed one after another, I started thinking about the people in all of those vehicles. I could not help but wonder what we had in common. We all set out for our destinations that morning and hopefully all reached them before day’s end. Although some obeyed the speed limit others chose not to do so.
More importantly, we all shared the love of a gracious God who allowed his Son to die for our sins. God loved every person in every one of those cars just as he loved me. What a great commonality to have.
Every single one of us had disobeyed God at one time or another in our lives. Every one of us needed forgiveness. God offered that to each one of us by Jesus’ death on the cross.
Just as the red tail lights led us all onward to our destinations, the red blood shed by Jesus leads us all to repentance and forgiveness. It provides us a restored relationship with God as well as eternal life with him.
Some people choose to believe and accept the redeeming forgiveness of God while others do not choose to do so.
I decided to pray for all those traveling that day. I thanked God for the ones who knew him and prayed those who did not would come to know him.
God, thank you for providing a way of salvation for all who believe in you. Thank you for loving us that much.
