Good News, Bad News, Best News

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Romans 3:23

Good news: I awakened at 4:00am on a Saturday morning. Since I had debated making a three-hour drive to see my mother in assisted living, I decided to hit the road.

Bad news: My brother called right as I got there to say he was on his way from out of town also. If I would have known of his intentions I could have waited until the next Saturday to make for more visits for her.

Good news: We both arrived safely.

Bad news: They had just reinstated the Covid lockdown -- so no visitors.

Good news: Since we came from so far away, they let us gown up, mask up, glove up, and go to her room. We had a good long visit.

Bad news: No more visitors allowed until the lockdown lifts.

When I got home Saturday evening, I happened to check my e-mails. Mother’s assisted living facility had sent a message informing family members of the lockdown on Friday. I neglected to read my Friday e-mails so I did not know about it before I went.

How embarrassing!

You know, God has an important message for us all. He placed it in his Word, the Bible. If we neglect to read it, we miss out on his news for us too. The results can affect the quality of our relationship with him now and where we spend eternity in the future. Much more is at stake than just embarrassment.

God created man. Man sinned causing separation from God. Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. He rose again after three days defeating sin and death.

Good news: God bridges our separation from him if we admit our sin, believe in his saving grace, and ask him to reside in our hearts.

Thank you, God, for the Best News of all!
