Don’t Miss Out
When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
Luke 2:15 CSB
How do you feel about darkness? Copper Breaks State Park in Texas offers darkness as its main attraction. Miles away from city lights Copper Breaks is recognized as an International Dark Sky Park (IDSP). A Dark Sky Park is a land that possesses an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment.
I love stars and was excited for the rare viewing opportunity during a camping adventure to Copper Breaks. My husband and I arrived one hot July afternoon. After setting up camp, we enjoyed our evening meal. As night approached, exhaustion overtook me. I laid down to rest a few minutes. I awoke the next morning refreshed but disappointed that I’d missed the previous night’s starry show.
Can you imagine the regret the shepherds would’ve felt if they hadn’t hastened to Bethlehem to see the newborn Son? A host of angels stunned them with their appearance and an announcement as they guarded their sheep one night. No sleeping through that heavenly encounter! The lowly flock-keepers listened and believed God’s messengers. They promptly went to Bethlehem. No regrets. And… they shared the good news with others!
They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger. After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them (Luke 2:16-18).
I still regret missing the opportunity to view the stellar display on that dark, dark night at Copper Breaks. But, more importantly, I haven’t missed out on the Hope of Christmas. What about you?
Friend, will you hurry to the Christ Child, our Savior, and the Light of the World?
Thank You, Jesus, for entering our dark world to rescue us and be with us forever.
