BLINK!

BLINK!

“Don’t blink,” said the technician at the ophthalmologist’s office. Bright flashes of light  made it almost impossible not to blink. I thought, “How long will this last?”

“Now, blink, blink, blink,” she said, as I heaved a sigh of relief!

Later that day, I discovered a jewel while reading from the Christian Standard Bible translation. A prayer written by King David jumped off the page as I focused on one phrase––Protect me, as the pupil of your eye;––Psalm 17:8a.

Perplexed for a moment, because most translators choose ‘apple’  instead of ‘pupil,’ I searched other comparable translations and found the same surprise word again––pupil. The Holy Spirit taught me a lasting truth about God’s miraculous creation of the human eye.

Since the pupil isn’t actually a structure in the eye but an open space, the comparison is even more meaningful. David asked God to protect him, as His own pupil.

The pupil is an open space through which light enters the eye, controlled by the muscles in the colored part of the eye––the iris––the pupil becomes smaller with more light and larger with less light.

Did David ask to be in God’s open space? Or did he ask God to be in his open space? Or Both? I believe these questions present a beautiful picture of what righteousness means––to live and breathe in God’s space, which covers my space.

Friends, God’s blink of an eye, or time table, is almost incomprehensibly different from ours. It is higher, more far-reaching and incredibly more vast. Let’s live through this perilous pandemic seeking God’s presence in our daily lives.  Surrender––moment by moment––to your Creator so that you are open to learn more about His thoughts and ways. Ask Him to protect you and lead you. Be patient. Then experience peace flow with the assurance that He is holding you in the center of His eye.

But I will see your face in righteousness;

when I awake, I will be satisfied with your presence.

Psalm 17:15
