Balanced

Balanced

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; May your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Psalm 143:10

I learned a new word today – “ambivert.” Ambivert means someone who has both introvert and extravert tendencies in equal proportion.

Many years ago I took a personality test which came back with those results – right down the middle introvert and extravert. The guy giving it made a statement about how hard it is to help people like that. I did not know of the word ambivert at that time, but I wish I would have so I would not have taken his comment so personally and negatively.

As I think about it now, I would describe an ambivert’s personality as “balanced” in that area. Sounds like a positive not a negative. I would think it a compliment if anyone described me using the word balanced.

How can we achieve a goal of balance in more areas of our lives? The verse Psalm 143:10 comes to mind. We can have it by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us on “level ground.”

If we physically stand on level ground we do not have to worry about balance because our equilibrium feels stable. We do not feel as if we will fall to the left or to the right. We do not zig zag or get dizzy because both sides of the body support each other equally as we stand on an even surface. That removes a lot of stress.

Spiritually the same thing happens when we allow his good spirit to lead us.

The Holy Spirit leads us to the balance we desire in our lives. All we have to do is follow his lead.

Lord, thank you for leading us on level ground. Thank you for providing the balance we seek. Your will is so good. Lead on!
