Music to His Ears

Music to His Ears

I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea. The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him…

Exodus 15: 1&2

Wow! The children of Israel had made it through the Red Sea on their exodus out of slavery and Egypt. What a spiritual high!

What did they do in response? They trusted in God, they sang, and they praised him.

Exodus 15 gives us a peak into their praises: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted.” Exalting Him in my mind means lifting Him all the way up to the top. Nothing rises above him. Nothing exceeds him.

“Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.” God knew what he had done, but they acknowledged that fact to him anyway. They understood that the defeat of their enemy only came from him.

“The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” Once again, they acknowledged that their rescue and salvation came from him only.

“He is my God, and I will praise him…” What a significant declaration of God’s place in their lives. Because of that, they honored him with their rejoicing.

What has God “hurled into the sea” for us? Some of us may have suffered from abuse, now we do not. Our self-esteem used to come from a worldly attitude. Now it comes from God. Our hopes and dreams may have been dashed to pieces, but God put the pieces back together for his good or is in the process of doing so.

Let us sing! Let us exalt and praise him. Let us thank him for his power in our lives. Let us acknowledge the salvation he has provided.

I imagine when we do, it counts as sweet music to his ears.

Father, you are all powerful. We praise you. We exalt you. We give you credit for our salvation.
