Broken and Beautiful

Broken and Beautiful

He makes me whole again, steering me off worn, hard paths to roads where truth and righteousness echo His name.

Psalm 23:3, The Voice

I love seashells.

And I love all kinds. Even broken ones.

My husband? Not so much. He only wants to keep the perfect ones.

On our last trip to Florida, we had quite the debate on how many would be going home with us.

Most seashells have a crack or piece missing somewhere. Most have been dashed against rocks or coral with the crashing waves. Very few are perfect.

Yet I could see how beautiful these broken shells could be in art projects or displayed in oversized apothecary jars.

I think God sees people like I see seashells. Because really, we’re all broken seashells. We have the scars and cracks of living life on this sinful, broken planet.

God sees our beauty — even when there’s brokenness.

While I can’t make a seashell whole again, God can restore broken people.

Here’s what the Bible tells us:

God can create beauty from ashes. Isaiah 61:3.

He can restore the years the locusts have eaten. Joel 2:25

God restored Job’s fortunes and gave him twice as much as before. Job 42:10

God can restore the joy of our salvation. Psalm 51:12

Jesus restored two demon-possessed men. Matthew 8:28

Jesus restored the paralyzed and the blind. Matthew 9

Jesus longs to restore those caught in sin. Gal. 6:1

One day, Jesus will restore the Garden of Eden. Rev. 22:1

Friend, what do you need restored today?

Bring it to the Lord now. He’s waiting to hear.
