Get it Off!

Get it Off!

Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.

Psalm 31:3&4

A first grade girl on the playground startled me by her loud yell. She screamed at the top of her lungs while running toward me, “Get it off! Get it off!”

As I turned to find out what happened and how I could help, she shouted again, “It’s on you! It’s on you! There’s a bug on you!”

Sure enough a big huge bug had crawled up the back of my pants. I had neither felt nor noticed it. Fortunately for me the little girl did see it. Quickly another friend knocked it down to the ground. Crisis averted. Because of her warning I received no bug bite or no scary moment of a bug crawling on my skin.

God does that for me too. He notices when Satan is crouching around behind me. God sees when sin is creeping up on me. He tries to get my attention just as the girl on the playground had. Beware! Beware!

If I stop, turn around and listen to His voice, I am made aware. Another crisis averted. If I go on my merry way not paying attention, the outcome changes. I can get bitten by that sin and have to go through the negative consequences of it.

Thankfully, God watches over me. He wants to protect me and guide me even when I might not realize the danger. “Get it off! Get it off!” He too yells at the approaching sin.

And that’s just what I want to do.

God, your guidance and protection help keep me out of the trap of sin. Help me to recognize Your warnings and obey Your voice.
