The Bread of Life

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6: 35

I love baking and cooking of all kinds. I have a slew of cookbooks and cooking magazines throughout my house. I have spent countless hours making something because it “sounded good” and I felt it would bring me satisfaction. It satisfied me for a time but then a few hours later I became hungry again.

I can plan an elaborate meal days ahead and lay before you a beautiful feast but regardless of all the love and effort I poured into that meal it will never satisfy your hunger forever.

The greatest hunger anyone could ever face is spiritual hunger, the empty feeling deep within that gnaws on our inside. Jesus tells us, For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world (John 6:33).

Dear Giver of Life,

Thank You so much for giving us the greatest gift – You! We live in a world full of empty promises and temporary satisfactions. You have promised to give us a never ending fulfillment when we believe in Jesus. Forgive us when we turn away or push aside or get to busy to notice the spiritual banquet that is laid before us that will sustain us for life.
