FAITHFUL…REGARDLESS

FAITHFUL…REGARDLESS

…great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:23

When my youngest daughter was less than one year old, I accepted a challenging ministry of teaching God’s Word. The first year in that ministry was extremely difficult. It was if I had a target on my back, and the enemy never missed. All through that year, I witnessed God’s faithfulness. At the end of the first year (and every other year), I was able to proclaim about God, “Great is your faithfulness!” God used difficult experiences to deepen my dependence upon Him and expand my knowledge of His awe-inspiring character.

In deepest grief, the writer of Lamentations wrote of the destruction of his beloved city and nation. Even though his people had experienced terrible atrocities and even though they were still experiencing pain and suffering, he made an amazing statement about God: …great is your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:23).

Think about that. He proclaimed God’s faithfulness when everything around him was being destroyed and when it appeared evil had prevailed. How could he do this? Because this writer knew God!

This writer’s beliefs about God were not based upon his circumstances. “Great is your faithfulness” was his statement of trust in the One whose faithfulness had been proven through the ages. Even though the people of Judah had been unfaithful to God, God would remain faithful. He would remain faithful to His Word and faithful to His covenant with Judah. God’s faithful love would never end.

You and I can know the same truths about God. Even though you and I are at times unfaithful, God will remain faithful. He can be no other way! (2 Timothy 2:13)

Perhaps you can’t see God’s faithfulness right now, but you can trust His proven faithfulness. God will be faithful to His promises in His Word. He will remain faithful to His good plan and purpose, and He will remain faithful to His people.

Lord, we praise you and proclaim, “Great is your faithfulness!”
