Aligned
Do and do, do and do, rule on rule; a little here, a little there.
Isaiah 28:10 (NIV)
The level is one of the favorite tools in my toolbox. It corrects my natural judgment when I think artwork is straight on the wall. Just when I am certain of my decision of placement, the level often proves me wrong.
I have learned there is power in relying on that little bubble in the center of that simple glass measure!
Let your imagination and God’s Word serve as the same measure in areas of your life where you might need balance or realignment. Only God knows if your heart and behavior are truly in or out of alignment.
You may defend yourself with the following comments:
—That little habit isn’t too bad.
—God created me with a jealous heart…that’s just me.
—Worry is one of my personality traits.
—I don’t need daily Bible study because I’ve heard many sermons and was adequately equipped spiritually from childhood.
God’s Word is a “leveler” for those who read it with an open mind and receptive spirit.
Your Bible sitting on the shelf—just as the level locked away in the toolbox—is useless until it is used for its original prescribed purpose.
When my time was limited while raising kids, I learned it was perfectly acceptable to open my Bible on the kitchen counter next to a recipe book while cooking dinner! Amazing insight was provided during those super-busy days because I invited Jesus to walk alongside me.
Oftentimes, one phrase would jump off of the page to become my solace for the day. My Savior knew I didn’t have time to study that phrase theologically, so He honored my effort “to do and do while observing His rule on rule.”
Hallelujah! At every stage of life, God is patient while I strive to keep that bubble in the middle!
Father, I love that you are The Perfectionist—the accurate Level for my life. I ask you to lovingly correct me when I am out of alignment. I want to live with the freedom and security of your approval. Amen.
