My Beloved Speaks
My beloved spoke and said to me, “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me.
Song of Solomon 2:10 NIV
At the wedding reception of my daughter and son-in-law, friends and family united with us to celebrate. I hoped to acknowledge each guest personally. There were just too many people and too little time to visit. The responsibilities as mother of the bride pulled me away as well. The reception was a blessed event, but it was not a time to enjoy a good heart to heart conversation.
Sometimes it is hard for me to spend time alone with Jesus, also. Distractions bombard me. My family needs something. The dog barks. The phone rings. My schedule is loaded. The washer overflows.
Still Jesus says “Come.” Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads. I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 ICB). Leave the dirty dishes. Let the kids eat cereal. Schedule an appointment with your Beloved—just you and Jesus.
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me. Come hang out with Jesus and enjoy his presence. He can't wait to hear about your day. He longs to comfort you when you are sad or hurting. He is excited about your successes. He is amused at your funny stories.
Jesus wants to communicate to you, as well. He may teach you new lessons as you read the Bible. He may give you courage to face a difficult situation as you pray. He may prompt you to call a depressed friend. He may simply tell you how much he adores you.
Jesus said, Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink (John 7:37 NIV). What do you say? Shall we come to Jesus for some fellowship and refreshment?
Lord, you are the love of my life. You are my everything. Show me where to carve out time to be alone with you to bask in your presence. Draw me into a deeper relationship with you.
