Revelation 5:8b

Moving to a new home is a challenge. You wrap and pack your belongings, carry them to a new location, unpack, unwrap and place each item in its new space. It is a lot of work and takes a lot of energy.

However, one of the bright spots of moving is finding treasures you may have forgotten about as you go through everything you own. In preparation for my recent move, I found my prayer journals from 15-20 years ago. I placed them in my lap and opened the one on top.

The first thing I thought after reading the first several pages was, My goodness. I was so whiny! “Lord did you see how...” “Did you hear what…” “Forgive me for…” “I’m so weary because…” Help me to…” and on and on.

I was worn out by the time I made it halfway through the first one! Lord, how do you stand listening to me? I don’t think I could even listen to my needy self! I packed up all of the journals, deciding that they required too much of my emotional energy.

At some point after that, the Lord brought Revelation 5:8b to my attention, they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which were the prayers of God’s people. He describes our prayers as incense, an aroma, or a beautiful scent before Him.

When we earnestly pray, this is how he sees our prayers, as something beautiful, not as “Here she comes again…” It is amazing to me that He listens and does not become weary, nor do His ears tire of my words.

God loves us and desires an intimate relationship with each one of us where we talk to Him and He talks to us. He wants us to trust Him and walk closely with Him.

Thank you, Lord, that you do not grow weary of our heartfelt and needy prayers. Thank you for seeing them as beautiful and for wanting to have an intimate relationship with each and every one of us.
