Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Proverbs 22:3
The first decision I made seemed innocent enough. My daughter and I chose to go get our fingernails done thinking we had plenty of time before my grandson’s PreK program. Of course, it took longer than expected so we rushed out in a hurry afterwards.
Because of our rush, the second decision I made caused some me regret. As we drove away, past a traffic light, and down the street I noticed my James Avery bracelet missing. Thinking I had probably left it inside the nail place, I decided not to go back to get it right then. I would just wait until later that afternoon after the program. Wrong choice! When I did finally return for it, no one had seen or found it.
I felt so foolish. In hindsight, I did seem to remember hearing something fall to the ground on the sidewalk. I had glanced back, but not taking time to really look, I kept on going.
If only I had paid more attention. If only I had gone back immediately. If only, but I had not, and I certainly had to pay the penalty for it.
Hurrying through the business of life may not make for prudent decisions. Taking a bit more time and care can keep us from the danger of foolish choices. Taking refuge, using wisdom before hand can keep us from some unpleasant penalties.
God reminds us over and over in the Bible he is our refuge. Slowing down and taking advantage of his shelter provides us with much more peace than charging ahead aimlessly.
Father, I confess my hurried thoughtlessness to you., I pray for the person who found my bracelet. I hope it gives them as much of a blessing as it gave to me. Help me to remember the lesson its loss taught me -- to slow down, see the danger, and rest in you.
