The Majesty
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies to silence the foe and the avenger. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:1a, 2, 9
“Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8 begins and ends with this celebration of God’s majesty. Nestled in between we find a verse about the praise of children. Have you ever listened to a child or children sing about Jesus? What an uplifting sound!
I know when I hear my young grandson singing, “What a Mighty God We Serve,” my heart swells and just about bursts. I have to fight back my tears of joy and gratitude to God. I want to experience the same joy and innocence he does with his song.
Teaching in a Christian school I had the privilege of attending chapel once a week with around 200 children. I just imagine worship in Heaven has to be similar to this experience. You just cannot beat children lifting up their voices together in one accord celebrating a majestic God.
Besides an amazing worship experience, this verse in the Psalm passage says this type of praise “establishes a stronghold against your enemies.” Not only that, but “it silences the foe and the avenger.” What a powerful weapon for our children when we provide them with opportunities to learn about praising God and opportunities to do it as well. A song in their hearts can actually protect them.
As adults, don’t we want that same weapon in our arsenal?
Using children as our example, let’s join them in their inhibition-free, God-focused, weapon-giving adoration of our majestic Lord and Savior. What a great stronghold against our enemy, Satan.
God, you are worthy. Your majesty is more than we can ever imagine. We praise you with the wonder of little children. Thank you for being stronger than our enemies. Your name reigns true in all the earth.
