Majestic!
The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
Psalms 93:1
“Majestic” was the only word that came to mind as we texted our sightings to one another. Imagine our excitement discovering eagles had chosen a tall pine tree on our family’s ranch for building their nest! Week by week, the busy parents brought sticks to slowly increase the dimension of what would eventually become a six-foot treetop castle. We waited while the female eagle patiently incubated her eggs. The proud pair now spend their day hunting for food and perching protectively near the nest. They seem proud of their accomplishment! This weekend we finally saw the eaglets! One hopped up onto the side of the nest when a parent arrived with supper dangling from its talons. A second one popped up to vie for its portion.
Majestic. Regal. Strong. “Our” eagles are creatures of the Creator. He robed them in majesty among the birds of the air, but they’re far less than the majesty of their Creator. The Psalmist writes of God’s majesty and reign in a short song of only five verses, but it powerfully portrays the God we worship. He reigns in majesty and strength over the world He established. Because of who He is, this world is firm and secure within His protection and eternal plan.
It’s raining outside as I write, and I think of those eaglets in an open-air stick nest swaying in the storm. I’m not concerned, though, because I’m confident that a parent has them tucked safely under its wings while the other keeps protective watch.
We can rest in that same principle as we bed down for the night or withstand our own storms. We are firm and secure because our majestic LORD reigns!
