Dusty Books

Dusty Books

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

 1 John 1:9

I sat down to read and turned on the table lamp beside me. As light spread across the table, I saw a fine white powder coated its surface and even the books resting there.

Where did that come from? I wondered. Just how long has it been since I dusted? It seemed like yesterday, but I realized it had been a week.

During that time, dust particles floating in the air had settled on the books and table. I hadn’t even noticed the gradual build up.

The same kind of thing happens to me spiritually if I’m not careful. You see, when I ignore sins in my life, they also accumulate. Before long, I’m as polluted as those dusty books.

The good news is we don’t have to wear a dirty coating of sin. That’s not God’s plan for believers in Christ. When we do wrong, His Spirit “turns on the light” for us. As we recognize and admit our sin, He wipes it away.

1 John 1:9 explains, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are spotlessly clean…until the next time.

Like dusting, confessing sin in our lives is a never-ending job.

Father, help me to be diligent to examine myself and confess sins in my life.
