Our Lifeline
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may be innocent and pure as God’s perfect children, who live in a world of corrupt and sinful people. You must shine among them like stars lighting up the sky, as you offer them the message of life.
Philippians 2:14-16a GNT
A World War II veteran shared some of his experiences at my church. He recounted carefully maneuvering through a minefield with his troop. Terror filled the group as one of his buddies up ahead inadvertently stepped on a mine. This soldier knew he had no hope unless someone helped him. All he could do was stay extremely still, remain calm and wait. One wrong move would end his life.
Fully aware of the impending danger, the veteran chose to help his comrade, even at the risk of his own life. He inched his way toward his friend, possessing the only thing that could save him. He finally reached his buddy and disarmed the mine. Death would not win that day.
In the beginning our Creator said, “Let there be light!” That is still His desire. Let there be light in that desperate situation. Let there be light in that hospital room. Let there be light in that troubled mind. Let there be light in that rebellious heart.
Ladies, we are the stars shining God’s brilliant light in this dark and messed up world. People all around us are desperate, hopeless, and dying, both physically and spiritually. We possess the only thing that can change destinies--the message of life! Life in Jesus Christ alone. We are entrusted with an awesome responsibility, but the rewards are great, eternally great.
Mighty Savior, shine your light through us in the darkest hearts and situations. The darkness is as light to you. Life is hopeless without you. Thank you for illuminating our hearts. May we have courage through you to hold out the message of life, the only lifeline that can save a world in danger of dying. May death not win today.
