The Resurrection and Life

“…Why do you look for the living among the dead?

He is not here; he has risen!...”

Luke 24:5-6

Jesus raised Lazarus to life. After being dead four day, Jesus called Lazarus’ name and he came out of the tomb. That day Jesus told Martha, “I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies” (John 11:25).

The religious leaders viewed this miracle as a threat to their power. As they gathered, Caiaphas, the high priest, spoke, “…it is better for you that one man die for the people than the whole nation perish” (John 11:50). Caiaphas didn’t realize his words were prophetic. One man did die for the people.

Jesus Christ laid down His life so that all who believe in Him might not perish.

However, death is not the end of Jesus’ story. If not for the resurrection of Jesus, our faith would be in vain. Paul stated this best, “…if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17).

However, the faith of believers is not in vain!  Jesus was raised in power on the third day. He rose from the dead, conquering death. His death and resurrection conquered sin, the cause of death, and Satan, the author of death. Therefore, death, sin, and Satan have no hold upon those who are in Christ Jesus.

Are you convinced of the resurrection of Jesus Christ? In Corinthians 15, Paul listed many eyewitnesses of Jesus’ resurrection, including the apostles. Jesus appeared to more than five hundred followers at the same time. These followers continually proclaimed Jesus’ resurrection to others. Many of them died because of their faith and testimony. Yet, they held to the truth that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

Believer, who needs to boldly hear from you today that Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and Life?

Jesus, thank you for your promise that whoever hears your word and believes in you has crossed over from death to eternal life (John 5:24).
