Thanksgiving is More than a Holiday: The Writer Who Knows Me

O LORD, you have searched me and known me!

Psalm 139:1 ESV

From the beginning, God has known me. He knew the parents I would be born to and the country, state, and town where I would be born. He knows everything about me!

He has searched and known the psalmist (v. 1), yet the psalmist ends Psalm 139 with requests for God to search and know his heart (v. 23-24). I often make that my plea, probably more so this past year than any other time. I do not see all that is in my easily deceived heart. But God does!

I believed for years that I would live in Colorado all my life, be married to one man for fifty years, and be a stay-at-home mom. Once I started following Jesus Christ as an adult, God revealed how short-sighted and unrealistic those expectations were. My desires were not necessarily wrong or bad, but they were not reasonable. God knows me better than I do. I have often resisted His ways, but He has never given up on me. His ways and His wisdom are matchless.

Our heavenly Father is faithful in listening to and answering me by showing me more of Himself. He exposes my blind spots and harmful thoughts. He gently cleanses and purifies me when I allow Him to.

I am thankful!

After all things come to pass on earth, those who have a saving trust in Jesus Christ will have their stories completed. God, the divine author of our stories, will share His version of how His ways intertwine with our lives. What masterpieces they will be!

God has rewritten my past into an extraordinary testimony of God’s love and attention. He will do that for you!

While awaiting our heavenly homes, let’s keep practicing the godliness Jesus has called to and equipped us for. Nothing is wasted, and everything will be made new!
