Wheat & Weeds

Where did the weeds come from?

Matthew 13:27 NIV

My Sunflower Vine vigorously twined up my garden trellis. I allowed a wild vine to grow nearby thinking they would just mature side-by-side. However, by the time I realized my mistake, the damage was done. The wild vine had choked my Sunflower Vine!

Unfortunately, my rescue efforts of snipping and yanking simply decimated my prized vine. I doubted it would survive the assault. However, as I surveyed the damage, Jesus’ parable told from a boat on the Sea of Galilee came to mind.

The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. … The owner’s servants came to him and said, “Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?” “An enemy did this,” he replied. The servants asked him, “Do you want us to go and pull them up?” “No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest” (Matthew 13:24-30 NIV).

I needed the reminder that God does not ignore evil within our world but waits patiently until the fullness of time when He will harvest His faithful ones along with those who have rejected Him.

Until then, the wheat and weeds, as well as Sunflower Vines and wild vines, will grow together. And, God promises that His grace will be sufficient for each day!

Father, thank You for reminding me that You see, that You care, and that You are fulfilling Your plan for this broken world. Thank You for your mercy and grace available each day for us as we trust in You. In Your Son’s name I pray, amen.
