Esther—The One Who Spoke Up!

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish.

Esther 4:14 (NIV)

Who do you trust with your life?

You may have been blessed with honorable parents who placed their main priority on your upbringing. If not your parents—perhaps your spouse, a sibling, a teacher, a friend, or a minister?

Trustworthy mentors—someone to whom you would trust your life— are rare and should be treasured.

If you have such a mentor to lean on through difficult times, be thankful. God’s plan for your life is valuable to the Kingdom of God!

The Old Testament Book of Esther is a story about how God saved his own people who were in exile in Persia. The plot centers around Esther—the chosen one to be queen;  Mordecai—Esther’s godly adoptive father; Hamon—the evil one; and King Xerxes—the powerful one.

Mordecai’s conviction to save the Jews prevailed through Esther’s faithful devotion to him—the one she trusted most in her life. Even though she was amazingly young to be part of such a monumental plan, she was raised to be brave and to trust God. As a result, she fulfilled her role with great courage leading to success.

Secretly directed by Mordecai, Esther spoke truth to King Xerxes, which eventually saved the Jewish people from annihilation.

Young Esther and aged Mordecai worked together to take huge risks to further the Kingdom of God! They both, in fact, were willing to lay down their lives for God.

Consider your life’s story. Who has influenced you to follow God’s plan? Could you be the mentor to someone who needs for you to walk alongside them to strengthen their faith? Should you speak God’s truth instead of remaining silent?

Who knows?—for such a time as this, a situation may be in your future when you pray:

God, I know you have chosen me at this particular time to be the one who speaks Your truth. Please give me courage and Your words to speak up!
