Which Way Do We Go?

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt,  because he was looking ahead to his reward.

Hebrews 11:24 – 26 (NIV)

Moses grew up in the lap of luxury, raised by the daughter of Pharaoh. Think of the irony, Pharaoh, who tried to kill all the boy Israelite babies ended up with one growing up in his own household.

Living in a palace, Moses knew all about the “good life.” He experienced people getting what they wanted just because they wanted it. He could have had his every whim met, but he had a sense of God’s presence and so chose to live out his faith in obedience to his calling.

We too come to a place in our lives where we must choose. Do we decide to go along with the crowd or do we decide to let our actions mimic our faith in God? Will the world make fun of us or respect us for our decision?

As we choose to follow God, we may not post the cutest things on social media. We might not be able to discuss the most popular TV shows or movies with friends because we have chosen not to watch them. We may find we do not indulge ourselves quite so much as we focus on him.

Moses knew that by choosing God’s way his reward would not necessarily be an earthly one. He looked forward to the eternal reward accepting God’s path would bring. We too can look forward to that same privilege when we choose God’s way for our own lives.

Father God, which way do we go? We go straight into your purpose and plan for us. Your reward brings so much more to our lives than we can even imagine.
