Aroma of Christ
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in Christ’s triumphal procession and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place.
2 Corinthians 2:14
What’s your favorite fragrance? For perfume, mine is an oldie, given as a 16th birthday gift, from a guy I was dating. I still wear Youth Dew even though I’m not quite a “youth” anymore.
This verse in 2 Corinthians reminds us that He’s leading us as we spread the aroma of Himself everywhere we go. We must consider what we’re spreading as we daily walk out our faith in the world.
I have to admit, at times I kind of stink. My stinky attitude shows up when I’m frustrated or interrupted. My smelly words fall our of my mouth when I don’t think before speaking.
When we wear well the fragrance of Christ, others are affected by our love and grace as Jesus loves others through us. This happens when we are kind to a server at a restaurant or stop to ask a stranger if they need something when it appears they are in distress.
2 Corinthians 2:15-16 continues this aroma idea: “For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To some we are an aroma of death leading to death, but to others, an aroma of life leading to life. Who is adequate for these things?"
The fragrance we wear goes with us wherever the Lord leads. It affects those who are saved, being saved, and lost. Only God knows who knows Him and who will reject Him. Our role, either way, is to model Christ.
What scent are you wearing today?
Lord, we want to be your hands and feet in our world. May others sense your love and mercy by how we represent you as we carry your aroma of love to those in our world who desperately need a Savior or who just need a reminder of your faithfulness.
