When God Runs
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Psalm 32:8
Have you ever had to run to keep up with God? Recently, I was part of a group that was given an assignment of great magnitude. Each of us felt the weight of this responsibility, and we fervently sought God, asking Him to make His will known. Following God one step at a time became our group’s heartfelt desire. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25).
I look back to an experience many years ago when I ran ahead of God. What I desired was good, but I didn’t wait on God’s timing. The difficulty that resulted made me never want to run ahead of God again. I learned that going ahead of God means to move out of His revealed light into confusion, frustration, and even darkness. And so, it was important to me in this assignment not to go ahead of God.
As we sought God, He revealed each step we were to take. But I was amazed at how quickly God was moving. I began to pray, “God, if this is not your will, stop us in our tracks!” We prayed, we sought God, we followed, and God continued to move us forward.
What I believed would be a lengthy process was accomplished with amazing speed and clarity. Our group became confident of God’s revealed will. My view of our experience quickly changed from “our assignment” to “God’s story.” I gained a renewed understanding that those who follow God closely are blessed to see His amazing work!
Are you in the process of trying to determine God’s will regarding something in your life? God delights in revealing His will to His children! Pray. Seek God through scripture. His Spirit will guide you. And when He moves forward, follow closely. You are going to be amazed at His mighty work that will be revealed!
