Listen for Truth

But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us.

1 John 4:6 NLT

There is so much talk today … in media, politics, social media, speakers, writers, in the world.

Everyone wants to be followed … listened to … admired …  even … worshipped.

I have listened to people who have pulled me the wrong way, away from God … and I have listened to people who have pulled me back the right way to God.

I feel like a … yoyo … sometimes.

Can you relate?

Finally, one day in the quiet of my heart with Jesus, I learned this truth…

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them (1 John 4:4-5 NLT).

If the world embraces and listens … that is my clue, something may not be right.

If there is a huge following … be careful.

Through His Word … Jesus taught me who to listen to …

But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception. (1 John 4:6 NLT).

Now I know to discern, to look for … the Spirit of truth.

The Spirit of truth will speak truth … from the Word of God.

They will agree. Listen for truth. Listen for Jesus.

 Jesus said …

“I am the way, the truth …”  (John 14:6 NLT).

Truth comes from Jesus (Ephesians 4:21).

I am so thankful … Jesus will help me hear truth … and help me find the others who hear Him too.

If it is hard to discern truth, ask Jesus to make it clear.

Lord, in the quiet of my heart, You speak to me sharing that the spiritual enemy will attempt to deceive me through worldly people, worldly words, but that as Your child, Your Spirit will help me hear Your Words of truth, guiding me, so I know who to listen to. Help me listen for truth from Jesus. Thank you for helping me listen. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
