The Healing
“He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”
Psalms 147:3 CSB
After surgery, the next step was healing. Physical therapy. Doctor’s appointments. Knee braces and crutches. No driving for a senior in high school. She was patient in the process. She followed the doctor’s advice with rest and therapy.
It was in these moments God gave us little glimpses of his power. The physical therapist was floored by my daughter’s strength from the beginning. She was able to do so much more than expected, and her healing was going better than expected. We were thankful.
She wanted to continue in her sport. You see, my daughter THRIVES in a team dynamic. Competition drives her. It is in her soul. She had already decided where she wanted to go to college before the injury, but now she had to tell the college coach what had happened. By God’s grace her college coach still wanted her to be on the team. However, since she lost her senior season, she was not able to earn an athletic scholarship. You see, she needed a certain height to earn that scholarship. Due to the injury she was not able to reach that goal. We were confident that she would have achieved her goal if she had not been hurt, but it didn’t work out that way.
Two days before she was to leave for college, she had a doctor’s appointment. This appointment was to pass a physical test in order to be released from the surgeon. She NEEDED this release from her surgeon to join her college team. God gave us another glimpse of how he was taking care of my girl. In His timing, God healed her, gave her strength, and she left that appointment ready to be on the team of her dreams. She was cleared!
Healing is sometimes a slow process. Physically and emotionally. But God. God has been gracious to give us glimpses of His Hand as we walked - and kind of still walk - a rough road. He has been good to heal, but you know, I was not always ready to let Him heal. I was a little bitter and held tight to my broken heart. But when I was ready and willing to trust Him, He was always faithful. He IS always faithful.
Lord, thank you for the moments that remind me of your faithfulness. Thank you for the healing that could only come from You.
