Trust in Serving God
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:11
My girls and I were visiting with my parents, who live out in the country surrounded by beautiful rolling hills. There is great joy when sitting on their front porch gazing out over the green luscious pasture and beautiful blue pond. It is such a peaceful environment.
One particular morning we were sitting on the big porch swing, watching the sun rise, drinking our cup of coffee, when a very busy squirrel and a barnyard swallow caught our attention. Both creatures were yapping at each other as if they were arguing over whose turf they were on. As we continued to watch this little squabble we were able to conclude that the squirrel was making a nest for her future kits and was warning the bird that this particular part of the tree was taken.
My girls and I watched in fascination as the momma squirrel steadily worked on building her nest. She would stretch her body across a limb in order to break off the perfect leaf and take it to her domain. One by one she would carefully choose the right leaf. Many times her attempts would fall short when she would lose grasp of her leaf, just to watch it fall to the ground. The little momma, however, would not give up. She continued on with her task and stayed on the course, as if nothing could hinder her goal.
This momma squirrel was a great reminder for me not to get discouraged when I run into bumps in the road as I strive to serve the Lord. I need to press on and finish the goal with unswerving faith, knowing my trust is in the Lord.
Thank You Lord for using that little squirrel to remind me to stay the course in serving others.
