Trust in the Power of God

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open and everyone's chains came loose.

Acts 16:26

Paul and Silas were in bondage; they seemed to be in a hopeless situation. However stone-cold walls were not going to keep them from worshipping the Lord. They knew that there was power in the name of Jesus. God not only shook the very ground they were standing on but also broke the chains that held them in defeat.

There is power in the name of Jesus. He has the power to move mountains, break chains, pull you out of your own prison cell, and defeat the darkness of death. He has the power to change the impossible situation into a glorious situation. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe (Proverbs 18:10).

Paul and Silas showed great faith as they worshipped the Lord in the midst of their darkness. Their unswerving faith became a testimony to God’s greatness, causing others to notice.. The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household” (Acts 16:29-31).

Dear Father, Help me to remember there is great power in Your Holy Name.
