Trust Him With Your Day

While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen. I called you but you did not answer.

Jeremiah 7:13

Have you had one of those days when the moment your feet hit the floor in the morning it is go...go...go?

One particular morning I was awakened to the cries of my children and husband, “Mom, I am hungry!”, “Mom, can I take a shower”, and “Honey, what is your agenda for today?”

After completing breakfast it was school lessons, house chores, and the to do’s for the day. I felt myself getting short tempered at the smallest of issues: my first grader taking longer than usual to finish her reading, my teenage daughter asking off-the-wall questions instead of focusing on her geography lesson, and my husband having a long phone call when I needed his full attention on an issue. I felt myself getting overwhelmed by the day’s demands.

The Lord showed me this verse later that night when I finally sat down to have alone time with Him. The thought that the Lord tried to speak to me, over and over, and I did not listen, broke my heart. I allowed the business of the day to get in the way of being with my Savior.

It is very similar to how Martha was distracted by all the preparations of the day that she missed the opportunity of sitting down at the Lord’s feet and being in fellowship with Him. His response to her, “You are worried and upset about many things, but a few things are needed -- or indeed only one” (Luke 10:41-42).

Dear Father,
Forgive me for not putting You as the first priority of my day. Help me to trust You with my time.
