BEAUTIFUL NAME
I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
Psalm 9:2
The line was long in the store where I was changing out my Wi-Fi router. All masked up and standing on the designated spot, I was practicing patience while waiting. Although I had been in the store earlier that day—two necessary trips to the store—I refrained from being frustrated.
Finally, I was called to the counter by a young woman working behind a computer screen. She examined the router and realized they had made an error in the password number on the equipment.
While waiting for her to gather information on the new equipment, I was pleasantly surprised that the store employees had chosen to play Christian music on the intercom. When What a Beautiful Name began to play, I made a comment that it was one of my favorite songs. I shared with her that I had been privileged to sing the song in cathedrals in Italy with a large choir. I also expressed my gratefulness for being able to go to Europe before the pandemic began.
My comment perked her up as we made eye contact. She then surprised me by asking me to sing along!
So there I was in a retail store surrounded by customers. Unabashedly and unashamedly I quietly sang a few stanzas, of course, muffled by my mask!
To my surprise, she then said, “I can’t be sorry I had COVID because I found Jesus. I was all alone for ten days in my apartment with no one to help me, and that’s when I became a Christian.”
My eyes brimmed with moisture when I realized that on one ordinary day while going about my business, the Holy Spirit brought this young lady into my life—at that moment—to share her story about the beginning of her relationship with Jesus Christ.
We parted with a conservation about the impact Christian music has in our daily life.
Friends, even on ordinary days that are filled with lists of duties, do you pray for God to reveal His unique plan for you each day? Thankfully, God loves to honor simple acts of obedience by giving us renewed energy and joy.
