I Am Loved

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

Jeremiah 31:3

Dana felt sweet anticipation as the day began. It was her 10th wedding anniversary. Drew, her husband, was home from completing some out-of-town professional training for his new job. The last few months they’d only spent a few weekends together so she was excited about celebrating today.

As they discussed plans over morning coffee, Dana relished their time together on this landmark anniversary. An uneasy sensation stirred inside her. Was it just her perception, or was there something not quite right between them? Their marriage hadn’t always been easy, but they were committed to each other.

After a few moments of silence, Drew’s eyes darkened and he barely whispered, “There’s no good time to say this, but I don’t love you, and I never have.”

Dana faltered and gasped for air. She wasn’t able to respond.

This couldn’t be happening. They had vowed from their wedding day that divorce wasn’t an option, so what now? They were both devoted followers of Christ. Drew was an elder in their church!

She didn’t remember all that was said that day, but her world abruptly shattered as severely as a vintage vase against a marble floor.

The message that assaulted Dana’s betrayed heart blared, “You are unlovable.”

Am I unlovable? That’s how she felt, but was it true?

Are we able to recognize, reject, and replace the lies with truth when faced with devastating circumstances, words or actions of others? Or do we accept them and react in desperation in an attempt to cope?

Lies enslave us. Truth sets us free.

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. We sing it, but do we believe it and genuinely walk in God’s love? A battle wages war in our minds—truth against lies. Which will win? As impossible as it often seems, the choice is ours.

Join me in prayer:

Father God, Thank You for being bigger than my feelings and loving me no matter what. Your love never ends. You desire a heart relationship with me.
