Illuminate Me
Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.
Luke 11:36
My mother complained for a couple of days of eye pain. I looked at her eye but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Because my mother has macular degeneration, I didn’t want to take her eye pain lightly. If her retina was bleeding, urgent action was necessary.
We visited her doctor who suggested we proceed to the emergency room. There the doctors had access to equipment for diagnosis her regular doctor didn’t have.
The emergency room doctor first looked in my mother’s eye as I had. Next, he checked her eye pressure. It was normal. Then he placed drops in her eye and illuminated it using a lamp with a special light.
“Aha!” the doctor said. “Come look at this!” Standing behind the doctor, I peered through the lens of the lamp. I saw a green crescent moon shaped scratch on the sclera, the white part of the eye. The scratch absorbed the solution which turned green when the light shone upon it.
The doctor knew right away the medicine to prescribe that would help the eye heal. Without the special light, the scratch would have remained hidden, delaying healing. God’s light does the same for us. It illuminates the sin in our lives so we can turn to God for help.
Reading God’s word reveals our offensive ways. Find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. Everything exposed by the light becomes visible…(Ephesians 5:10, 11, 13).
Are there any dark and dusty areas of your life right now? If so, will you let the light of God shine on them?
You, Lord, are my lamp (2 Samuel 22:29). Shine your light and expose the hidden sin in my life. Give me grace to change my ways to please you.
