Leap of Faith
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
I grew up in Miami, Florida in the 1950s and have some great memories of that time. Life was simple, safe, and carefree. I moved away from my hometown after college, but one of my friends stayed on and became a federal judge there.
She told me the “Happy Days” atmosphere we enjoyed is long gone. Now-days Miami has the big city problems of crime, drugs, and gangs.
Before she retired, my friend presided over difficult cases everyday. She was constantly reminded of the evil men can do. Seeing the dark side of humanity must have challenged her endurance. However, she persisted.
I think the reason my friend was able to endure the pressure was her faith in God. She relied on Him for strength.
Let’s face it, no matter what path God calls a woman to follow, it is filled with boulder-sized difficulties. Full time mom, fast food cook, or corporate executive- whatever our job, we run into problems.
Graciously, God has given us a prescription for our stress: Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Our Father invites us to rehearse and rehash the problems of each day with Him. He promises to be available when we call Him. Taking a leap of faith, we land squarely on this truth: we can depend on Him. Always.
The Bible teaches and the Holy Spirit confirms God is with us in the midst of our difficulties. Knowing that liberates us to focus on His power, not our own inadequacies.
Let’s rest there.
Father, when I feel inadequate, remind me of Your power.
